The Institute for Healthcare Improvement is a global healthcare organization that works to redesign health care through system changes in the areas of patient safety, quality improvement, and person and family centered care.

In order to better equip current health professions students in health system transformation efforts, IHI created the Open School, an international network of student chapters. The Open School bridges the gap between academic and practical applications by offering free online curricular modules and opportunities for hands-on learning through chapters such as ours.

As students in Oregon, our Chapter supports the tenets of the Triple Aim by continually developing interprofessional collaborations and competencies through:

  • Specific health services improvement projects including the I-CAN initiative and the OHSU Quality Drive
  • Chapter business meetings & events
  • Student quality improvement projects
  • Conferences
  • Seminars

We also support and prepare student leaders for participation in the annual Open School Student Quality Leadership Academy (SQLA) in Boston as well as the annual IHI National Forum in Orlando.

We are currently affiliated with two universities and welcome participation from students, faculty, community members, consumers, and other professionals from a variety of industries and backgrounds.
